Heart Health Tips
What is a stress test?
A stress test, also called an exercise
electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG), provides information about how your
heart works during physical stress. Some heart problems are easier to
diagnose when your heart is working hard and beating fast.
Do you know the signs of a heart attack?
The warning signs and symptoms of a heart
attack aren't the same for everyone, and can be different in women and
men. While chest pain or discomfort is the most common heart attack symptom,
not all heart attacks begin with the sudden, crushing chest pain you
often see on TV or in the movies. Many heart attacks start slowly as
mild pain or discomfort, while some people don't have symptoms at all.
If you think you may be having a heart attack, time is critical. Call 911 right away. Do not drive yourself to the hospital.
Heart Disease and Stroke in Women: Reducing Your Risk
Heart disease and stroke are leading causes
of death for women throughout the world. More women die from heart
disease than from cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,
Alzheimer's, and accidents combined. More women than men die from
strokes every year.
How can you tell if you have high blood pressure?
When blood pressure is high, it starts to
damage the blood vessels, heart, and kidneys. This can lead to heart
attack, stroke, kidney disease, and other problems. But if you don't
measure your blood pressure, you won't know when it's high, because
there are usually no symptoms.
